In 2004, Susan was persuaded by a friend and noted artist from Boulder, Colorado, Liz Pollard-Jenny, to attend her art class at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, their Alma Mater.  This class was a transformative experience for Susan exposing her to the visual world of fine art in the high mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Susan draws inspiration from the places she has lived: New Mexico; Washington, DC with its wonderful museums, the lush, tropical Fiji Islands where she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer and the soft, muted shades of the Southeast, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  She has been mentored by strong instructors and friends in the visual arts: Liz Pollard-Jenny, Carrie Alter, Brian Kuebler and Julia Cliff.

Susan began with representational pastels, moved on to abstract cold wax and oils, and most recently, a series of white flowers native to the Southeast.  All paintings on this site, with the exception of those in private collections as marked are available for sale.
